What I love the most about the “France and soldier” comic

In a webcomic that’s meant to be a lighthearted comedy, rarely do some of the darker aspects of the concept of personified nations arise in Himaruya’s work. In fact, it’s rarely even directly addressed.

This particular comic strip is a noted exception. It points out what’s constantly implied throughout the comic - that nations can’t live ordinary lives. Gifted with the ability to feel human emotion and form bonds, yet subjected to nearly eternal life as the embodiment of a country. That would make them very lonely people, if you think about it. Besides the other nations, whom else could they really bond with knowing that they’ll always outlive the human friends and bosses they get to know? That’s dozens of generations they have to see come and go. That is a painful concept to think about. Simply knowing they’ll never be normal…

In Hetalia, what always fascinates me is how the sadder issues are rarely ever seen directly in the comic. Often, they are hinted between comic continuity and just knowing what happens in history. But this comic not only hits you in the head with one, it’s a very canon thing, and I’m glad Himaruya addressed it at least once. It adds so much depth to Hetalia on the whole.

Ok, can we just take a minute to appreciate this animation sequence? No, seriously. This is how boobs work! Too many animation teams seem to think that breasts somehow defy gravity. They don’t. If you take away their support; they fall (to the sides if you’re on your back - as shown here). Well done this team. Well done. =)

while that scene in the movie did make me feel uncomfortable, (haven’t seen it in a while so I can’t remember if anything triggery was happening or what so sorry if I don’t tag this properly!) and realistically speaking Faye’s boobs are perched a bit high on her torso; (or maybe it’s just a proportions/style thing?) I can also confirm that they got the general physics right!

The notion that if we cut our defense budget by as little as 10%, we’d be completely defenseless and prone to disaster is ridiculous. 

We could cut our defense budget by 75% (nearly $500 billion!) and we’d still spend more than our two biggest threats combined; Russia & China.

Can we plaster this graph all over the news, and billboards, pls?

And the notion that we need to INCREASE our defense budget by two trillion when the DOD isn’t even asking for it is even more ludicrous.

why can’t we just have the defense of maybe China & the UK combined, and then we use all that extra money for our infrastructure, education and other useful things? ; u ; since we have so much to spare apparently..

one of the biggest problems with our system of education is that it doesn’t acknowledge that intelligence is a fluid concept that can be measured in more ways than just how well people do on exams

Interesting! Could these be designs for Slovakia and Czechia? He did say that Czechia would be the next female character and also said he was in favour of a younger female with an older male duo for these two characters. Other possiblities for the man could be Portugal or Croatia (anyone one remember that possible Croatia cameo in the Turkey and EU strips?).

But that said, I really like these designs! I hope we learn soon of who these two characters are.

Please…please, please, please - let this be Czech. ;A; She’s so pretty. And the man ~ I hope it’s Slovakia, but Croatia would be just fine, too. ^^

Day 19: Waterbender Tahno or non-bender Tahno? x

I’mma feel so guilty in saying this,

but…probably Waterbender Tahno.

I MEAN DON’T GET ME WRONG. I LOVE NON-BENDER TAHNO; heck that’s when I felt all sympathetic towards him and stuff,

but Waterbender Tahno was just so sassy, flamboyant…

Tahno does have skill. Just because he doesn’t follow probending rules doesn’t mean he isn’t a great fighter. I also think it is a skill in itself to come up with a clever idea like putting rocks into your water whips assuming it was his of course and not Ming or Shaozu’s. I do though have a hard time believing that his fouls were always never called on. Shiro Shinobi, the announcer, seemed surprised that the refs weren’t actually punishing the Wolfbats for breaking the rules as if this is the first time he’s ever seen this happen. He’s the sole announcer for probending as far as we know so he’s covered plenty of Wolfbat matches to have seen how they play. Furthermore I find it all too convenient for Amon that the Wolfbats to have won and provide him with the perfect example of how his movement is just. What would he have done if the Fire Ferrets had won that night and therefore showed that bully benders actually do not prosper? He couldn’t take the Fire Ferret bending away because that would make them martyrs. The fact that Korra would have beaten the Wolfbats would make his equalizing them look like overkill as opposed to the act of a savior delivering nonbenders from oppression. So yeah, this has been another pointless post of mine analyzing Tahno. Carry on.

I didn’t mean to imply that Tahno didn’t have any skill, I had just assumed that he was a cheater, for the most part. It is possible that he didn’t really cheat ‘til that one time, but I’m still not entirely sure. The announcer was very surprised though, so it was either the first time he cheated, or the first time the ref was bought off.

Maybe we’ll get to see Tahno shine more in season 2…assuming he comes back

Just remember we could have gotten this instead of the Sailor Moon anime.

Oh, I remember this. Still hope somehow that the actual pilot would leak out in some way, so we could see all the cheesy awfulness and more of what they were going for.

From the music video itself though, it definitely would’ve been so strange to get introduced to “Sailor Moon” in this way. Random dancing, and live-action/animation blending, and everything being so unlike the actual series! Like those sailor boards, ff. So 90s and obviously put in for merchandise appeal. I’ve heard the Bandai Moon Cycle was supposedly based off of one of these concepts, but have never been able to find 100% confirmation. It’s a shame that there’s so limited info on the pilot.

(I’ve seen confusion about which girl is which even now, but Mercury is the redhead in the wheelchair, Mars has short black hair, Jupiter has darker skin and short hair, and Venus has the long brown/black hair. Unless they switched the uniform colors. They wear these colors as live-action civilians too, so it looks like the “Power Rangers” influence was really in there.)

Y’know what’s even scarier?

…If this had been made, I probably would have watched it.
